It remember that magical night traveling on the 'Coast Starlight', in route to Klamath, Oregon. It was late at night and I was in my room, under the covers of my bed looking out the big window. The sky was filled with stars. Peeping through the shadowy images of forest trees was the moon. Suddenly, I noticed star streak across the sky and I made a wish. Nikki was sleeping in another room with her Aunt Jeannie. The next morning as we gathered for breakfast in the dining car, I began to tell them about star that I had seen. Nikki's eyes glowed with excitement as she listened. She was ecstatic because she too had seen the star and made her wish. In that moment we were two engaging souls, joined in spirit by a single celestial event that delivered a shared joy aboard the 'Starlight', during that memorable summer. Nikki and I always had and will continue to have a very special spiritual connection. During her short life, in every circumstance she evidenced a continuous presence light, love, hope and incredible courage. As her grandmother, I must say that from the first moment I saw Nicole to the last moment that I spoke with her she was 'uniquely enchanting'.
